IEEE launched this initiative in January 2021 with the goal of making its continuing education resources affordable, accessible, and relevant for practicing engineers and technical professionals in countries served by the IEEE Region 8 Africa Council. The courses are being delivered through the IEEE Learning Network (ILN) with support from IEEE-trained subject experts (Course Program Guides) through IEEE Collabratec®.

This three-year initiative is supported by the IEEE New Initiatives Committee. Courses are offered through industry and organization partners in six countries: Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Uganda, and Zambia. Local IEEE Section volunteers and the IEEE Region 8 Action for Industry Initiative are helping to promote the program.

Participant feedback is informing the development of new courses and policies to establish a full program of sustainable, high-quality, nationally certified IEEE continuing education resources for practicing engineers throughout Africa and other regions globally.
